Barry Allen is Professor of Philosophy at McMaster University, in Hamilton (Ontario) Canada. He received his PhD in philosophy from Princeton University in 1986. His doctoral work was supervised by Professor Richard Rorty. He has taught at the University of Chicago, Hebrew University (Jerusalem), and recently at the Institute for Modern Chinese Thought, East China Normal University, Shanghai. He is the author of the books Truth in Philosophy (Harvard University Press, 1993) and Knowledge and Civilization (Westview Press, 2004), as well as many articles on the philosophy of Nietzsche, Foucault, Richard Rorty, and American Pragmatism. His current research concerns the philosophy of Art and Technology, as well as the theme of knowledge in postmodern thought.
