自由意志短期讨论班

应北京大学外国哲学研究所的邀请，美国Northwest Nazarene University哲学系副教授Kevin Timpe将于2010年3月8日－19日在北京大学外国哲学研究所开设自由意志短期讨论班。Timpe教授在自由意志的形而上学领域已经发表一些有影响的文章，他是《自由意志：来源和取舍》（Free Will: Sourcehood and Its Alternatives, Continuum, 2008）一书的作者和《对于宗教的论证》和《形而上学和上帝》的编者。

课程表述：
This will be a course devoted to contemporary debates about the nature, existence, and implications of free will and moral responsibility.  Topics to be covered include:  whether or not the existence of free will is compatible with the truth of causal determinism; competing approaches to the nature of free will; to what degree can our moral practices be justified if there is no free will; free will and agency; recent psychological data on free will; and related methodological issues.

For the readings, we'll be reading Robert Kane's A Contemporary Introduction to Free Will, along with related readings by (among others) Peter van Inwagen, Harry Frankfurt, John Martin Fischer, Derk Pereboom, Galen Strawon, Peter Strawson, and Daniel Dennett.  I've made a webpage with all the anticipated readings here:  http://people.nnu.edu/ktimpe/China.htm
